What We Do
Our mission statement says we’re “a diverse community of believers following Jesus in building relationships by serving those among and around us with love and offering the good news of peace, hope, and healing.” Here’s what that looks like in practice:
Worship

Worship is the center of our life together. We gather for worship in our building every Sunday from 10:30–11:30 am. Pastor Michelle preaches one week and Pastor Jacob preaches the next. In their sermons, they retell biblical stories in imaginative ways, share their personal experiences, wrestle with the deep questions of faith, and direct our attention toward the living God. If you can’t make it in person, you’re welcome to attend on Zoom. Email us to request the Zoom link. Kids are welcome to stay for the whole service. Nursery care is also available. You can dress however you want. Some of us wear collared shirts and slacks; some of us wear Eagles hoodies. On the first Sunday of each month, we stick around afterward for a potluck meal. If you forget to bring a dish, don’t worry. Just stay and eat!
Women’s and Men’s Groups

We run both women’s and men’s groups, which meet once a month in the homes of members and mix conversation, prayer, Bible study, and food. Unfortunately, we don’t have a great photo of a regular meeting, so we’re including this shot of one member of the men’s group relinquishing the much-coveted mini-golf trophy to another.
Youth Group

Our youth group, for middle and high schoolers, has done everything from informal dinners at the pastors’ house to nativity plays to field trips to service projects to weekend retreats (pictured above). Email us for more information.
Summer Retreat

Every summer, we pack our overnight bags and spend the weekend together at Camp Hebron Retreat Center outside Halifax, PA. Most of the congregational legends we tell and retell come from this yearly outing. Do you remember when one of our members received a stern letter from the camp for scaling the climbing wall barefoot? Do you remember when our toddlers serenaded us from the pulpit mics (pictured above)? Yes, we have a good time.
Ambler Community Refrigerator

In 2025, our church became the new home for the Ambler Community Refrigerator, which was previously located outside Weavers Way Co-op. The fridge now sits right outside our front doors. It’s open 24/7 for anyone to take what they need and give what they can, no questions asked. Local volunteers, donors, businesses, nonprofits, churches, and synagogues make sure there’s always enough food. Plus we get to host fun community fundraisers for the fridge (like the Summer Fete pictured above).
Boys and Girls Club, Family Promise, WeCare

We’re always looking to get to know our neighbors better and help out where we can. We pushed for a branch of the Boys and Girls Club to come to West Ambler, and when they did, we hosted them in our basement. When their new building was under construction, they moved in with us again. Several of us have volunteered with their after-school programs, and we do a “Boxes of Love” food drive for the kids and their families every Christmas. (One of our members is pictured doing the shopping above.) With Family Promise MontCo PA, we team up with other local churches to host and provide meals for people who don’t have a place to stay. And with WeCare Ambler, we help provide meals, snacks, and fun activities for local kids.
Special Events

We schedule periodic special events to do things we like and care about. Most recently, these have included canning meat for Mennonite Central Committee’s international relief work, fixing up houses for Good Works, Inc, and hosting a Palestinian cooking class (pictured above) to raise money for Prayers for Peace Alliance. We announce these events in advance and invite everyone.
WFCA, Mosaic Mennonite Conference, and Mennonite World Conference

We’re a member of the Wissahickon Faith Community Association, an interfaith group for leaders of churches, synagogues, and mosques in Ambler and the surrounding area. We’re a member of Mosaic Mennonite Conference, which is based in southeast Pennsylvania but also has churches in New York, New Jersey, Vermont, Florida, and California. In 2025, we joined Peña de Horeb (Philadelphia), Encuentro de Renovación (Miami), Faith Chapel (Los Angeles), and Blooming Glen (Bucks County, PA) in the pilot version of a program called Vibrant Mosaic. Representatives from these five churches travel to each other’s home places, get to know each other, and learn about local mission together. And, when in Florida, they visit the alligator park (pictured above). We’re also a member of Mennonite World Conference which brings together Mennonites from all over the world to worship and build relationships.
